Gdansk's Main Town is a Hanseatic streetscape of tall merchant houses along the Long Market, rebuilt after 1945 and now the busiest few blocks on the Baltic. The city sights and WWII guided walking tour covers the Golden Gate, Neptune's Fountain, St. Mary's Church and the shipyard gate where the Solidarity movement began. The electric golf cart tour does the same ground plus the shipyard in an hour, which suits families and a short stopover, and it is the most booked activity in the city.
On the Water
The Motława river is the city's main street. The cruise on a replica historical Polish boat takes about seventy minutes from the medieval crane past the granaries to the shipyard cranes, and it is the highest-rated boat trip here. The Westerplatte cruise goes further out to the peninsula where the first shots of the Second World War were fired, with a guided stop at the monument.
Malbork Castle
Malbork is the largest brick castle in the world, the former seat of the Teutonic Knights, an hour south of Gdansk. The half-day tour includes transport and an audio guide through the Grand Master's Palace, the refectories and the castle church; allow around three hours inside.
Sopot and Gdynia
The Tri-City private day tour links Gdansk with Sopot's wooden pier, the longest in Europe, and Gdynia's modernist port, nine hours with a guide and driver. The commuter train does the same route in forty minutes if you prefer to go alone.
Evenings
The candlelit Chopin concert in a Gothic church is a fifty-minute recital and the top-rated evening ticket in the city. The Polish vodka tasting pairs four regional spirits with a short history, and the spy-themed walk turns the Main Town into a two-hour game.
Practical Notes
River cruises run from spring to October; in winter the walking and cart tours continue. Most tours here offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.
