New York Tickets and Tours Worth Booking

Observation decks, harbor cruises and the memorial, ranked by what travelers book most.

Which Observation Deck to Pick

New York has more skyline decks than any traveler needs, and they are the most booked tickets in the city. SUMMIT One Vanderbilt is the mirrored, art-filled one beside Grand Central and the most reviewed activity in the USA. Edge at Hudson Yards has the glass floor and the outdoor ledge, and the Empire State Building is the classic, with a museum on the way up. One World Observatory sits on top of the tallest tower downtown and pairs well with the memorial below it.

Statue of Liberty and the Harbor

The official ferry ticket is the only way to land on Liberty Island and Ellis Island; book a morning slot and allow half a day. If landing is not the point, the sunset and harbor lights cruise passes the statue, the Brooklyn Bridge and the skyline in two hours, and the sightseeing helicopter tour covers the same ground in fifteen minutes from the air.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum

The timed ticket for the memorial museum is the most highly rated attraction entry in New York. It is a heavy visit, so plan it for the start of a day rather than the end, and combine it with the nearby observatory if you want the view afterward.

Booking Windows and Weather

Decks and the statue ferry sell out on weekends and around holidays, so book tickets a week or more ahead for a specific time. Helicopter flights and cruises depend on wind and visibility; most tours cancel free up to 24 hours before departure if plans change.
